.SYNOPSIS...
As a weak cold front slowly crosses the region, scattered to 
numerous rain showers will continue over portions of eastern and 
southern Vermont today, and taper off tonight. Dry weather is 
expected for Friday along with gusty northwesterly winds. Tranquil 
conditions follow for the weekend into early next week, with rain 
and snow showers likely Tuesday through Wednesday.

Across Vermont...temperatures are near 41 degrees north, near 36 degrees central, and near 44 degrees south. Current sky conditions are cloudy north, fog central, and light rain south. In the north, relative humidity is near 99%, and the dew point is near 41 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 92%, and the dew point is near 34 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 93%, and the dew point is near 42 degrees. There is patchy fog north. Visibility is less than one mile central. Winds are from the west at 3 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are calm central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to fog. Winds are from the south at 3 mph south, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to light rain. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 44 degrees at Highland and Bennington. The lowest temperature is 36 degrees at Springfield and Montpelier.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
