Low pressure over the central U.S. will move east today
resulting in increasing cloud cover. This system will initially
bring rain to the mid Atlantic Region beginning later today and
lasting into Tuesday, but wintry precipitation will be possible
Tuesday night into Wednesday as cold air wraps into the system
from the north and west. Brief clearing is expected for the end
of the work week with yet another storm system effecting the
region for the weekend. Mild temperatures today will give way to
much below normal temperatures for the remainder of the week.

Across Virginia...temperatures are near 56 degrees north, near 56 degrees central, and near 57 degrees south. Current sky conditions are partly sunny north, cloudy central, and fair south. In the north, relative humidity is near 27%, and the dew point is near 23 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 37%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 47%, and the dew point is near 37 degrees. Winds are from the east at 7 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are variable at 6 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the south at 7 mph south, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 58 degrees at Wallops Island. The lowest temperature is FAIR degrees at Roanoke.

 DAY ONE  This Afternoon and Tonight.

A period of moderate to heavy rain is expected tonight as low 
pressure crosses the area.

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Tuesday through Sunday.

A second low pressure system will bring a rain and snow mix Tuesday 
night and potentially all snow Wednesday. Accumulation of up to one
to two inches are possible late Tuesday night into Wednesday.


Spotter activation is not expected at this time.

Historical Weather And Climate Facts For Today

Timberline Lodge reported 246 inches of snow on the ground, a record for
the state of Oregon. (The Weather Channel)
Suffocating dust storms occurred frequently in southeastern Colorado
between the 12th and the 25th of the month. Six people died, and many
livestock starved or suffocated. Up to six feet of dust covered the ground.
