Expect a noticeable warmup today, with most areas seeing highs 
climb above freezing, and even some lower 50s over southeast
Montana and western South Dakota.

A low pressure system will bring chances for mixed precipitation
across the region tonight into Friday, with mostly light freezing
rain in southern North Dakota and mostly snow to the north. 
Expect 30s and 40s for highs through the weekend, with additional 
chances for snow across southern parts of the region.

Across South Dakota...temperatures are near 24 degrees west, near 17 degrees central, and near 19 degrees east. Current sky conditions are not available west, clear central, and partly cloudy east. In the west, relative humidity is near 77%, and the dew point is near 18 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 88%, and the dew point is near 14 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 81%, and the dew point is near 14 degrees. Winds are from the southeast at 7 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to not available. The wind chill is near 16 degrees west. Winds are from the east at 7 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 8 degrees central. Winds are from the northeast at 6 mph east, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 11 degrees east. HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
