Freezing rain across the southern half of North Dakota and
northern South Dakota tonight. Possibly heavy snow will fall in
north central North Dakota through Friday afternoon.

Temperatures in the region will then warm back to above average 
through the weekend and into next week. This weekend another 
system will impact South Dakota and Minnesota.

Winds are unavailable west. Winds are unavailable central. Winds are from the east at 13 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 49 degrees at YANKTON. The lowest temperature is 34 degrees at BROOKINGS.

 DAY ONE  This afternoon and tonight.

Weak low pressure will bring chances for freezing rain with light ice
accumulations (up to 0.05 inch) late tonight into Friday morning. 

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Friday through Wednesday.

A couple of waves will move through Saturday night into Sunday and
Sunday into Monday bringing overnight snow accumulations mixing with
daytime rain.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
