Across North Carolina...temperatures are near 48 degrees west, near 52 degrees central, and near 52 degrees east. Current sky conditions are mostly sunny west, cloudy central, and rain east. In the west, relative humidity is near 53%, and the dew point is near 32 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 71%, and the dew point is near 43 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 100%, and the dew point is near 52 degrees. There is patchy fog east. Winds are from the north at 14 mph with gusts at 35 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the north at 10 mph with gusts at 18 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the northeast at 8 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to rain. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 59 degrees at Charlotte. The lowest temperature is 43 degrees at Jefferson.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
