Across North Carolina...temperatures are near 57 degrees west, near 61 degrees central, and near 51 degrees east. Current sky conditions are sunny west, mostly sunny central, and light rain east. In the west, relative humidity is near 28%, and the dew point is near 24 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 42%, and the dew point is near 38 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 100%, and the dew point is near 51 degrees. There is patchy fog east. Winds are from the north at 16 mph with gusts at 32 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the north at 8 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the north at 10 mph with gusts at 22 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds and light rain. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 67 degrees at Charlotte. The lowest temperature is 48 degrees at Manteo and Jefferson.

HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)
...1920...
The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
