For the ArkLaTex, fresh Canadian high pressure arriving in the 
#backdoor with SFC winds NE 5-10KT now and 10-15KT shortly after 
daybreak. Aloft, our climb winds are 25KT at 1kft and 35KT at 2kft
from the NE. They slack to calm at 5kft and then resume NE light 
by 10kft and then back again to NW in mid levels with 10KT 
increasing to W50KT by FL320. Air mass moves E Monday with light 
wind E/NE and fair skies into midweek. Low level winds will drop 
back after lunchtime. /24/

Across Louisiana...temperatures are near 66 degrees south. Current sky condition is mostly cloudy south. In the south, relative humidity is near 52%, and the dew point is near 48 degrees. Winds are unavailable north. Winds are unavailable central. Winds are coming from the northeast at 14 mph with gusts at 25 mph in the south, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 66 degrees at New Orleans Lakefront and N.O. INTL ARPT. The lowest temperature is 56 degrees at Baton Rouge.

A Small Craft Advisory will remain in effect through this
afternoon for the sounds and tidal lakes and this evening for the
open Gulf waters as northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots and seas of
5 to 9 continue.

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Monday through Saturday

Additional small craft advisory conditions may develop on Tuesday
and linger through Friday as a low pressure system moves through 
northern Gulf of Mexico. 


Spotter activation is not anticipated.

Historical Weather And Climate Facts For Today

A severe windstorm lashed the northern Pacific coast. In Washington State,
the storm claimed the lives of 22 persons, and caused 1.7 million dollars
damage, mostly to timber. Winds, gusting to 87 mph at North Head WA,
produced waves twenty feet high. (David Ludlum)
The second in a series of unusual October storms hit southern California
causing widespread thunderstorms. Santa Maria was drenched with 1.13 inches
of rain in two hours. Hail drifted to 18 inches in East Los Angeles.
Waterspouts were sighted off Point Mugu and Oceanside. (20th-21st) (The

Cold arctic air continued to invade the central U.S. Eleven record lows
were reported in the Great Plains Region, including lows of 12 degrees at
Valentine NE, and 9 degrees at Aberdeen SD. Temperatures warmed rapidly

warmed from a morning low of 24 degrees to an afternoon high of 75 degrees.

Joan, the last hurricane of the season, neared the coast of Nicaragua
packing 125 mph winds. Joan claimed more than 200 lives as she moved over
Central America, and total damage approached 1.5 billion dollars. Crossing

southeastern U.S. Twenty cities reported record low temperatures for the
date, including Calico AR with a reading of 26 degrees, and Daytona Beach
FL with a low of 41 degrees. Squalls in the Great Lakes Region finally came
to an end, but not before leaving Marquette MI buried under 12.7 inches of
