Across Kentucky...temperatures are near 47 degrees west, near 48 degrees central, and near 51 degrees east. Current sky conditions are cloudy west, fair central, and fair east. In the west, relative humidity is near 76%, and the dew point is near 40 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 49%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 39%, and the dew point is near 27 degrees. Current drying conditions are fair west, good central, and good east. Winds are from the east at 6 mph west, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the northeast at 7 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the northeast at 3 mph east, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The livestock cold stress index is in the no stress category west, no stress category central, and no stress category east. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 57 degrees at Louisville International. The lowest temperature is 44 degrees at Henderson.

 DAY ONE  Tonight.

No hazardous weather is expected at this time.

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Monday through Saturday.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible across central Kentucky Monday
afternoon and evening. A few strong storms will be possible across
far southern Kentucky during the late afternoon and early evening
hours. Hail and damaging winds are the main hazards. 

Accumulating snow is possible Tuesday night and Wednesday morning
generally along and east of Interstate 65. There remains uncertainty
in amounts, but travel impacts are possible for the Wednesday morning


Spotter activation is not anticipated at this time.

Temperatures for the period averaged 42 degrees across the state which was 4 degrees cooler than normal and no change to the previous period. High temperatures averaged from 55 in the West to 52 in the East. Departure from normal high temperatures ranged from 4 degrees cooler than normal in the West to 6 degrees cooler than normal in the East. Low temperatures averaged from 35 degrees in the West to 31 degrees in the East. Departure from normal low temperature ranged from 2 degrees cooler than normal in the West to 1 degrees cooler than normal in the East. The extreme high temperature for the period was 78 degrees at BARBOURVILLE 3E and the extreme low was 17 degrees at HARRODSBURG 3N.

Precipitation (liq. equ.) for the period totaled 0.74 inches statewide which was 0.24 inches below normal and 75% of normal. Precipitation totals by climate division, West 0.83 inches, Central 0.89 inches, Bluegrass 0.52 inches and East 0.71 inches, which was 0.2, 0.14, 0.38 and 0.27 inches below normal. By station, precipitation totals ranged from a low of 0.16 inches at BURLINGTON 4S to a high of 1.55 inches at LEBANON 8NW.

Weather History...

The great "Tri-State Tornado" occurred, the most deadly tornado in U.S.
history. The tornado claimed 695 lives (including 234 at Murphysboro IL and
148 at West Frankfort IL), and caused seventeen million dollars property
damage. It cut a swath of destruction 219 miles long and as much as a mile
wide from east central Missouri to southern Indiana between 1 PM and 4 PM.
The tornado leveled a school in West Frankfort IL, and picked up sixteen
students setting them down unharmed 150 yards away. Seven other tornadoes
claimed an additional 97 lives that day. (David Ludlum)
High winds accompanied a low pressure system from the Rocky Mountains to
the Great Lakes. Winds gusted to 100 mph at Hastings NE, and reached 115
mph at Hays KS. High winds caused two million dollars damage in Kansas.
Fire burned 50,000 forest acres in eastern Oklahoma. (17th-19th) (The
