Across Kentucky...temperatures are near 33 degrees west, near 33 degrees central, and near 37 degrees east. Current sky conditions are clear west, clear central, and mostly cloudy east. In the west, relative humidity is near 85%, and the dew point is near 29 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 75%, and the dew point is near 26 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 78%, and the dew point is near 31 degrees. Current drying conditions are poor west, fair central, and fair east. Winds are calm west, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the northeast at 6 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 28 degrees central. Winds are from the northeast at 3 mph east, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The livestock cold stress index is in the no stress category west, no stress category central, and no stress category east. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 39 degrees at Louisville International. The lowest temperature is 29 degrees at Frankfort.

A widespread frost and light freeze are anticipated early this
morning. Refer to the Special Weather Statement for details.

Fire danger will be heightened this afternoon, mainly for the 
southeast Missouri Ozarks.

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Friday through Wednesday

Fire danger will be heightened Friday afternoon, mainly for 
western Kentucky from the Land Between the Lakes eastward.

A chance of storms returns to the forecast late this weekend into
early next week. The best chance for stronger storms is with a
cold front's approach Monday into Monday night.

Temperatures for the period averaged 50 degrees across the state which was 2 degrees warmer than normal and 2 degrees cooler than the previous period. High temperatures averaged from 64 in the West to 62 in the East. Departure from normal high temperatures ranged from 3 degrees warmer than normal in the West to 2 degrees warmer than normal in the East. Low temperatures averaged from 43 degrees in the West to 38 degrees in the East. Departure from normal low temperature ranged from 4 degrees warmer than normal in the West to 3 degrees warmer than normal in the East. The extreme high temperature for the period was 76 degrees at BOWLING GREEN APT and the extreme low was 20 degrees at VANCEBURG 6W.

Precipitation (liq. equ.) for the period totaled 0.62 inches statewide which was 0.42 inches below normal and 59% of normal. Precipitation totals by climate division, West 0.71 inches, Central 0.52 inches, Bluegrass 0.39 inches and East 0.87 inches, which was 0.37, 0.53, 0.65 and 0.13 inches below normal. By station, precipitation totals ranged from a low of 0.16 inches at BRANDENBURG 4SW to a high of 1.54 inches at WHITLEY CITY 3N.

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
