Surface 4-Panel Current Agricultural Weather Conditions in Illinois Based on observations at 800pm CDT, Thursday March 28, 2024 Across Illinois...temperatures are near 43 degrees north, near 52 degrees central, and near 54 degrees south. Current sky conditions are partly cloudy north, partly cloudy central, and clear south. In the north, relative humidity is near 55%, and the dew point is near 28 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 52%, and the dew point is near 35 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 50%, and the dew point is near 36 degrees. Winds are from the west at 3 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the south at 8 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN Friday through Wednesday Fire danger will be heightened Friday afternoon, mainly for western Kentucky from the Land Between the Lakes eastward. A chance of storms returns to the forecast late this weekend into early next week. The best chance for stronger storms is with a cold front's approach late Monday into Tuesday morning. Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel) ...1920... The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum) ...1997... Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
