Weather Summary For Central And Southeast Illinois

Partly to mostly cloudy skies, and cool temperatures prevailed
over central and southeast Illinois on Tuesday. Light snow
affected far eastern Illinois, by the early evening hours. High
temperatures were several degrees below normal, only reaching the
lower 40s, on the first day of astronomical spring.

A storm system strengthening over the eastern U.S., will spread
accumulating snow as far west Indiana and Kentucky, for tonight
and into early Wednesday. Farther west, high pressure will bring 
cool and dry weather to much of the Midwest. A fast moving upper 
level disturbance, will bring a chance for rain showers to much of
the area, on Thursday.

Low temperatures tonight will drop into the mid 20s to mid 30s
across the Midwest. Highs on Wednesday will range from the upper
30s in northwest Indiana, to the lower 50s in central Missouri.

Across Illinois...temperatures are near 25 degrees north, near 30 degrees central, and near 34 degrees south. Current sky conditions are mostly cloudy north, cloudy central, and fair south. In the north, relative humidity is near 74%, and the dew point is near 18 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 69%, and the dew point is near 21 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 75%, and the dew point is near 27 degrees. Winds are from the north at 10 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 15 degrees north. Winds are from the north at 15 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. The wind chill is near 19 degrees central. Winds are calm south, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 36 degrees at Metropolis. The lowest temperature is 25 degrees at Rockford and Freeport.

Historical Weather And Climate Facts For Today

A tornado swarm occurred in the Deep South. Between late afternoon and
early the next morning severe thunderstorms spawned 31 tornadoes in
Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee. The tornadoes killed 334
persons and injured 1784 others. Northern Alabama was hardest hit.
Tornadoes in Alabama killed 286 persons and caused five million dollars

Severe thunderstorms spawned thirty-one tornadoes across Arkansas,
Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky. The tornadoes
killed 343 persons and caused 15 million dollars damage. Arkansas and
Tennessee each reported thirteen tornadoes. The towns of Judsonia AR and
Henderson TN were nearly wiped off the map in what proved to be the worst
tornado outbreak of record for Arkansas. A tornado, one and a half miles
wide at times, left a church the only undamaged building at Judsonia.
