Today: 

Showers and storms have been ongoing through much of the overnight 
hours. Frequent lightning and gusty winds have been associated with
storms so far early this morning, but some hail remains possible.
Temperatures as of 5 AM are mild and in the 50s to 60s across much of
the state. Winds out of the southeast to east remain breezy to gusty
with gusts up to around 35-40 mph. 

Today will be a stormy day with multiple rounds of storms possible.
Some of these storms will likely be severe with large hail, damaging
wind gusts, and some tornadoes all possible. A few of the storms could
produce significant severe weather. In addition to the storms, gusty
winds will continue through the day today with gusts up to 50 mph
possible outside of thunderstorms. A Wind Advisory is in effect for
much of central into northwest and northeast Iowa today for these 
strong wind gusts, though wind gusts in some thunderstorms may be 
higher. High temperatures today will be in the 60s to 70s. Make sure 
you have multiple ways to receive warnings today and stay weather 
aware!

Tonight and beyond: 

The severe weather potential will end tonight, but some showers may 
linger into early Wednesday, especially northeast. Additional showers
are likely Thursday from central Iowa into the Missouri Valley. 
Cooler temperatures can be expected to end the work week as well, with
highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

Across Iowa...temperatures are near 59 degrees west, near 75 degrees central, and near 74 degrees east. Current sky conditions are light rain west, mostly sunny central, and light rain east. In the west, relative humidity is near 77%, and the dew point is near 52 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 43%, and the dew point is near 51 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 63%, and the dew point is near 61 degrees. Winds are from the north at 20 mph with gusts at 29 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds and light rain. Winds are from the south at 23 mph with gusts at 35 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the southeast at 35 mph with gusts at 45 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds and light rain. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 77 degrees at Harlan. The lowest temperature is 54 degrees at Mason City.
