.KEY MESSAGES...

- Accumulating snow across the Park Range/Rabbit Ears Pass
  Thursday night with mainly lighter accumulations across the
  remainder of the Northern Mountains. Occasional snow showers in
  the mountains and scattered showers for the northern plains 
  Friday through Saturday.

- Mountain snow, with a mix of rain and snow likely for the
  plains, late Sunday into Monday. Mostly light but there could be
  some impact for the mountains and foothills.

Current Agricultural Weather Conditions in Colorado
Based on observations at 300am MDT, Thursday March 28, 2024

Across Colorado...temperatures are near 41 degrees west, near 35 degrees central, and near 36 degrees east. Current sky conditions are fair west, fair central, and fair east. In the west, relative humidity is near 43%, and the dew point is near 20 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 45%, and the dew point is near 16 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 79%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. Winds are from the east at 17 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the south at 9 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 28 degrees central. Winds are from the west at 6 mph east, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 41 degrees at GRAND JUNCTION and BROOMFIELD. The lowest temperature is 10 degrees at MONARCH PASS.

 DAY ONE  This Afternoon and Tonight

Isolated snow showers will come to an end over higher terrain this 
evening with little or no additional accumulation expected. Isolated 
showers and thunderstorms with brief gusty winds will be possible 
into the evening across the southeastern Plains of Colorado. 

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Thursday through Tuesday

A prolonged period of high fire danger is expected for Friday 
through Sunday over portions of our plains. Please avoid activities
that could start a fire this weekend! 

Heavy mountain snow is looking more likely from Sunday morning
through Tuesday. There is much more uncertainty for the lower
elevations including where the rain-snow line will set up. 
Confidence is growing for portions of the lower elevations to get 
periods of heavy snow between Monday and Tuesday.

HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)
...1920...
The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
